Pest & Wildlife Problems in Sugar Land, TX

Just southwest of Houston, the urban setting in Sugar Land, TX, provides food and shelter for a variety of pests. Animals like squirrels and raccoons thrive around people, and this proximity usually causes issues for homeowners.

Raccoons Raids

These pests typically come around at night, so Sugar Land residents must take precautions during the day. Hungry raccoons can find many meal options around a neighborhood, from outdoor pet food and birdseed to unsecured garbage cans. Having a raccoon as a frequent visitor increases the risk of disease transmission for homeowners and their pets.

Squirrels in the Attic

As nimble climbers, squirrels in Sugar Land scale trees to find food. The animals become nuisances when they strip bark from branches, raid gardens, and steal birdseed. Their agility also allows them to access rooftops and enter attics. Once inside, a squirrel can create a fire hazard by chewing on wiring.

Bats in Buildings

Urban development and other factors may force bats to seek shelter in buildings across Texas. Bats are potential carriers of rabies, so having them in the attic is an exposure risk for this disease. Roosts also produce large amounts of bat guano that stain ceilings and grow mold, which is hazardous to residents' health.

Other Common Sugar Land Pests

Moles dig through Sugar Land homeowners' lawns creating unsightly mounds. Their tunnels can damage the roots of garden crops as well. In addition, other animals may use abandoned burrows as shelter.

Texas has over ten types of venomous snakes, including rattlers and copperheads. Wood piles, dense brush, mole tunnels, and yard debris can all serve as snake hiding places.

Damage to plants can also come from eastern cottontail rabbits, which tend to strike gardens at night. Both deer and rabbits attract coyotes into Sugar Land neighborhoods, as well. Roaming in packs of up to eight members, these dog-like predators use their excellent sense of smell to locate garbage cans and stalk prey, including livestock and pets.

Tom Hanson is awesome! We're renovating and the roof is opened up, so here come the rats. So gross. I contacted Critter Control via their website, got a call back within the hour, and Tom was on property the next morning. He studied our situation and gave thorough, thoughtful advice—which did not include using their services! Instead, he taught us how to manage the situation until we can deploy a more permanent solution. When the house is sealed up again, Tom and Critter Control will return to ensure the complete removal of all unwanted creatures. Thank you, Tom and Critter Control. We appreciate your great service!

I connected Critter Control Orlando and was surprised, though elated that an actual person quickly answered. She was pleasant and efficiently scheduled a visit to my house to solve my varmit problem. The appointment was the next day. As arranged, I got a call from Ryan the next morning to tell me his eta. He arrived right on time and after explaining the procedure, got right to work. After a survey of our attic, he told us the problem and gave us a price to fix it. He explained exactly what would be done and an approximate number of visits it would take. I found Ryan to be easy to communicate with and an excellent customer relations person. I will be recommending Critter Control to my friends and neighbors.

After months of fighting moles in our yard ourselves and with the help of a landscaper, with no success, Critter Control caught a mole within a week. Very reasonably priced and very thorough. They’re the experts! We should have called them a lot sooner.
