Common Wildlife Problems in Cape Cod

Home-Invading Squirrels

Squirrels are an important natural resource in Massachusetts. Both Red and Gray squirrels are prominently found in Cape Cod.

Gray squirrels are known to cause more trouble than Red squirrels in suburban areas, and can cause damage to flower/vegetable gardens and landscaping.

In the fall and winter, squirrels often try to create nests in buildings - in attics, crawl spaces, and sheds. In these nests, they eat, sleep, urinate, etc. - which causes damage to wood, insulation and other materials, and some very unpleasant odors. Once they've created a nest in your living space, squirrels can also cause disruptive noises, causing discomfort to you and your family.

At Critter Control of Cape Cod, we receive lots of calls pertaining to squirrels - removal, prevention, and damage repair. We are experienced at confronting squirrels in an effective and humane matter. We'll help you get rid of squirrels, and then prevent them from returning to your living space.

If you suspect that there are squirrels nesting in your attic, walls, or any small crawl spaces in your house, don't try to get rid of the squirrel problem yourself.

Bat Eviction

Out of the nine species that live in the state, big and little brown bats make the most trouble for Massachusetts homeowners. While they're helpful outside because they feed on mosquitoes and other insects, the pests make messes when they roost indoors.

Bats inside of homes will create a messy place of residence and an unhealthy living area. Bat droppings in attics will carry diseases that may be dangerous for you and your family. Critter Control of Cape Cod can get rid of bats in homes, bats in attics, bats in chimneys, and more! We will get rid of the bats and remove the soiled insulation or any other messes created by the intrusive wildlife!

Bat Proofing
Once each bat has left your home, Critter Control of Cape Cod will seal all points of entry and bat proof your home! We will work hard to ensure bats cannot enter your home. Our prevention and bat-proofing efforts are proven and long-term.

Cape Cod Raccoon Control

Though Barnstable County officials take steps to reduce rabies in Cape Cod, the virus remains a concern. This issue is due to high raccoon populations throughout the region. In addition to spreading disease, the pests rummage through trash bins and break into attics to raise their young.

Raccoons are very common in Cape Cod and throughout the state of Massachusetts. These nocturnal animals are scavengers and are known to dig through trash, pet food, and anything else they can gain access to. These wild animals typically prefer forested areas but have become more and more likely to approach cities and suburbs in search of food and shelter.

Raccoon Trapping
At Critter Control of Cape Cod, we receive calls pertaining to raccoons regularly - removal, prevention, and damage repair. We are experienced at trapping raccoons in an effective and humane matter. We'll help you get rid of raccoons, and prevent them from returning to your property.

If you suspect that there are raccoons nesting in your attic, walls, or any small crawl spaces in your house, don't try to get rid of the raccoon problem yourself. Instead, call us 1-800-CRITTER and we'll come provide a home inspection. Then, we'll remove the raccoons and seal the entry points properly and thoroughly, to keep them from returning in the future.

Raccoon Control and Removal
Raccoon control and removal can be a very dangerous process and should be done by experienced professionals. Out staff is trained to effectively handle the control and removal of raccoons, in the most humane and safe manner possible. We are committed to making sure that you, your loved ones, and your property are safe and free of raccoons.

Effective Skunk Trapping

Skunk trapping is a tricky and potentially dangerous task. All homeowners are familiar with the pungent and foul smelling liquid skunks spray as a line of defense against any perceived threat, but what they may not realize is that skunks can spray up to 10 feet in distance! Not only is the smell overwhelming, but if the spray reaches the eyes it can cause temporary blindness.

Skunk control and skunk removal services should always be left to trained wildlife experts like those at Critter Control of Cape Cod. We offer skunk trapping, skunk removal, and skunk infestation prevention services.

Mouse-Proofing & Removal

House mice are one of the more common nuisance animals that cause problems in and around homes in Cape Cod. Once they find access to enter your home, they can cause a multitude of problems like chewing electric wires, fabrics, structures and other materials, eating and damaging food storage, contaminating surfaces with feces, etc.

Mice have sharp senses of smell, taste, hearing and touch. They are also exceptional climbers, and can easily scale textured vertical surfaces. They also are adept at jumping from surface to surface, have very quick reflexes, and can squeeze themselves into tiny holes and spaces. This makes them difficult animals to catch - and getting rid of mice is difficult!

House Mice In Cape Cod

If you are experiencing a house mice problem in your home or workplace, chances are that they have already established multiple points of entry to access your home. The house mice removal professionals at Critter Control of Cape Cod are here to help you get rid of the mice that are wreaking havoc in your home, and also to mouse-proof your space. This is the difference between our company, and our competitors.

Critter Control of Cape Cod takes the time to do a thorough inspection of your home, from the roofline down to the foundation. We identify every current and potential mouse entry point, taking photographs along the way, and then we provide a detailed report on what areas of the house need attention and reinforcement against potential mice intruders. In order to generate more profit from more repairs and inspections to your home, most pest companies utilize an approach that is a temporary fix for the mice infestation problem (and the associated damage and health concerns that come with it). The Critter Control of Cape Cod philosophy is that it's better to not let the mice enter to begin with!

Wildlife Diversity in Massachusetts

Problem animals in Cape Cod range from large predators, like the coyote, and small nuisances such as mice. Coyotes prowl yards for food. While they often settle for raiding garbage, the pests may attack pets. Mouse infestations are more of a bother inside. The rodents pollute pantry goods with waste and spread diseases.
