Wildlife Problems in Everett, MA

Located on the Boston Harbor, Everett, MA, is near historical sites that attract tourists year-round. Food and shelter meant for people often appeal to urban pests, which will take advantage of any resources to survive. Locals may deal with animals like raccoons, squirrels, and bats in and around their homes.

Bat Guano

Bats play a vital role in keeping Everett’s insects at bay. However, when they venture indoors, these animals create several issues. Bat waste piles up under roosts in attics and garages, staining floors and belongings. The pests’ droppings also foster the growth of Histoplasma mold, which can cause a life-threatening illness in people.

Hungry Squirrels

People in Massachusetts frequently notice a squirrel or two combing through their yards and gardens for something to eat. These pests feed on nuts, flowers, fruit, and seeds. Squirrels often gnaw on tree bark and crops as well, damaging roots and plants along the way.

Raccoons and Disease

Raccoons that roam Everett neighborhoods in search of a meal present health risks for residents. Pests carrying raccoon roundworm pass the parasites through their waste, contaminating places like sidewalks and sandboxes. Humans and pets can become sick after accidentally ingesting roundworm eggs.

More Pests in Massachusetts

Opossums and skunks adapt well to the city of Everett. They will both dig in lawns to find grubs or scrounge through trash for scraps if food is scarce.

Disturbing either pest can result in an unpleasant encounter. An opossum may hiss or excrete a smelly substance when threatened. A skunk’s response is even more dramatic, as the animal can spray odorous musk at attackers.

Shoutout to Adam and Craig for their professionalism where they swiftly and efficiently removed the squirrels from my property and installed aluminum fascia covering to prevent them from access again via the powerline pathways.

Craig was awesome. I was super worried we had squirrels in our chimney due to the crazy sounds I’d been hearing. Craig listened to my very limited recording /Did a careful evaluation- and then actively encouraged us to wait on any treatment, as he wanted us to gather more data over the weekend. He called on Monday- confirmed with us that it had been chimney swifts and gave me a referral for a chimney mason. No charge. If I EVER have critter issues in the future I will definitely call Craig again- he’s honest, thorough and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Adam at Critter Control used his considerable expertise to remove a family of raccoons living under my house. His creativity and professionalism in solving the problem were impressive! And I appreciated the fact that he was committed to returning every day until all the raccoons were removed, made absolutely sure they were all gone, and then thoroughly closed off the access point. Highly recommend Critter Control—they not only removed the raccoons, they restored my peace of mind.

I have had an annoying rodent problem for awhile because my neighbor has piles of debris in his yard. Other companies have not been able to help stop it, not until I called Critter Control. They have skilled technicians and their service and methods of stopping mice infestations are excellent. Thank you Critter Control. RMP, Waltham

I was having a problem with birds nesting above my deck and grilling area (high above), Critter Control installed mesh netting around the downspouts to prevent birds nesting. So far this has worked! I hope I don’t have to, but if the need arises, I will definitely use Critter Control again in the future.

Thanks to Ben, Alex, Ricardo and Adam for the diligence in installing the hardware cloth around out solar array on our garage. This work was done in Spring of 2025 and we have not had any recurrence of sparrows. They had to come out 4 times to get this right as these sparrows were very pervasive but did it with professionalism and did not charge extra for the additional labor. Can't thank them enough for their work! Bob
