Bobcat Appearance
Bobcats are medium-sized carnivores that weigh approximately 17 to 25 pounds. These powerful predators can reach up to 35 inches in length, while their tails add about 5 more inches. Their fur varies from reddish-brown to gray. Regardless of their color, the pests typically have black spots and white underbellies. In addition, bobcats are distinguishable thanks to their short ear tufts and the fur that flares from their cheeks and necks.
Identification of Bobcats
These pests can live in many different habitats. All they need is shelter, water, and food. Therefore, bobcats are often found in and around yards stalking prey, which includes pets and livestock. Since they are known to hunt between dusk and dawn, the pests aren’t typically seen by people, and their damage is often misattributed to coyotes. However, bobcat tracks can help in proper identification as they resemble those of a large house cat with broad paws and retractable claws, while coyote tracks are narrower and more canine-like.

As opportunistic predators, bobcats pose a threat to dogs, cats, and livestock that roam freely in yards.
