Texas has one of the largest snake populations in the country. Most of these snakes are non-venomous and pose little risk to people. Snakes are inside your house for one of two reasons. One- they’re looking for a cool, dark place to escape the Texas heat. The second reason is much more concerning. They could be hunting. Snakes primarily prey on rodents.

If you find evidence of a snake inside especially in the attic, you need a thorough pest inspection that includes rodents!

Snake in Attic Removal

If you suspect a snake in the house, the best course of action would be to call a professional, as they will have the proper tools and knowledge to take care of the infestation quickly and humanely. Furthermore, at Critter Control, during every snake inspection, we look for signs of rats or mice. We can provide an effective snake control and rodent control near you package to solve both pests.

Signs of a Snake in the Attic

A snake in your house will avoid people. They tend to stick to the hidden areas of your house, and it is not uncommon for a snake to leave your home. Even if a snake leaves, it has left behind physical evidence.

Snake Droppings

Snakes will only poop as often as they eat, which might be once every few days to once every few weeks, depending on variables like temperature and the size of the snake.  If you find snake droppings inside, there’s a good chance a snake is in your home. Do not touch the snake poop! The feces can carry diseases that are transmittable. Wear proper PPE before attempting to clean up snake poop.

Snake Skin

Snakes shed skin about once a month; older snakes do so a bit less. If you’re seeing snake skins in your house, then, it’s probable that the sake in question wasn’t merely passing through.

Snake Tracks

Their appearance is reminiscent of the track a rubber hose would leave typically about ½ an inch wide or more, in the form of wavy or straight lines. This sign can be harder to spot. You’ll typically find a track through dust or dirt.

Snake Trapping

Snake traps include a funnel trap or glue board (vegetable oil harmless counteracts the glue and releases the snake). If the snake hasn’t moved, we can catch the snake with snake tongs.

Snake Control

Snake control in the attic requires a combination of homes.

Rodent Control to Keep Snakes Out

The best way to keep snakes out is to get rid of the reasons they enter. Snakes are ambush hunters so they need to hide where their prey is active.

Critter Control’s Integrated Approach to Rat and Mouse Control

  1. Inspection: An expert at Critter Control will thoroughly inspect the property to identify areas of rat activity, entry points, and nesting sites.
  2. Identification: Different species of rodents require different control methods. Common rats in Florida include roof rats and Norway rats. Identifying the species helps in selecting the most appropriate control methods.
  3. Exclusion: Sealing off entry points and blocking access to the property is crucial to prevent rats from entering or re-entering the premises. This may involve sealing wall gaps, installing door sweeps, and repairing damaged vents or screens.
  4. Sanitation: Removing potential food and water sources, such as garbage, spilled food, and standing water, helps make the environment less attractive to rats.
  5. Extermination: Rat traps are strategically placed to capture rats already present in the property. Different types of traps, including snap traps and humane traps, may be used depending on the situation.
  6. Baiting: Rodenticides (rat poisons) may be used as part of the control strategy. At Critter Control, we use tamper-resistant bait stations placed in areas frequented by rats. Extreme caution is necessary when using rodenticides, especially in residential areas with pets or children.
  7. Monitoring and Follow-up: Regular monitoring of the property is important to assess the effectiveness of control measures and to identify any new rat activity. Follow-up treatments may be necessary to ensure complete elimination of the infestation.
  8. Preventive Measures: Providing recommendations to the homeowner on preventive measures, such as maintaining cleanliness, proper storage of food, and regular property maintenance, helps reduce the risk of future rat infestations.

Where Are Snake Hiding Places in Your House?

It is difficult to find a snake once one has entered your home because snakes look for a place where they feel protected.

Snakes commonly enter structures through gaps in door sweeps, dog/cat doors, open windows, and construction gaps, which can even be located on a roof (Yes, snakes can climb!). Snakes are also commonly found within garages because they often provide many spaces for them to hide. They will even sometimes seek shelter within vehicles.

Snake in the Yard Control

While alarming, a snake in your yard is less of a concern than a snake in your house. If you see the snakes consistently in your yard and near your home, you might have a mouse or rat population. Those rodents will be looking for a safe place away from the predator.
