The Eastern Shore of Maryland is home to a variety of mammals
like bears, bobcats, cottontail rabbits, porcupines, fishers, beavers, otters, and woodchucks. Raccoons, squirrels, skunks, opossums, rats and mice are the usual suspects for enter your home. Shrews, voles, and woodchucks easily dig the sandy soil and can cause issues in your yard.
Even though some of these animals have adapted to thrive near people; they are all wary of humans. It is unlikely you or your guests will see the animal. But they still leave ample evidence. Squirrels are always on the move. They have teeth that never stop growing and must gnaw on hard surfaces to keep them filed and pain-free. That means your siding, shingles, wires, wood, gutters, soffits, wire screens, and mesh may be destroyed. Squirrels also build nests in chimneys, vents, attics, and pipes, creating hazardous and costly outcomes such as fires and clogs.

Maryland is home to 10 species of bats
. Occassionally a lone bat might fly into your house. Avoid all contact with it! Open windows and attempt to isolate the bat in one room.
In Maryland, Little Brown Bats, Big Brown Bats, Northern Long-eared bats, and Evening Bats form maternity colonies conisting of mothers and their young (pups). These colonies historically were in old hollow trees, but bats adapted to other habitats like attics in houses, churches, barns, condos, townhouses, and apartment buildings.
