Nuisance Wildlife Removal
Critter Control is here for you every step of the way in the wildlife removal process. From inspection to removal — and even exclusion and repair — we have the services you need to get rid of raccoons, rodents and other nuisances fast. First, we identify the animal on the property, then use humane methods to remove the animal and secure weak points where more could enter. If damage has been done, we can make those repairs for a complete restoration.
Raccoon Removal in Citrus County
The raccoons in west central Florida search for nuts, fruits, seeds, vegetables, roots, insects, fish, reptiles and junk food. We have an abundance of all these foods. There is no lack of water either. The only thing left is shelter. Raccoons love to find refuge in your attic, in crawlspaces and under decks.
Because raccoons scavenge in the evening and during the night, they can get away with many mischievous activities, like overturning garbage cans, opening trash bags and raiding pet food containers. Consuming so much food means eventually, they will be dropping waste. This usually takes place when they are back in your home, resting.
When you call us to get rid of the raccoons in your home, here’s what happens.
Inspection: Raccoon poop and pee can leave stains and grow fungi. We find these stains, which usually lead us to their nesting spots. We examine all areas for chewed wires, scratches on boards, broken vents and screens and every possible entry point into your home. Next, we get the raccoons out of your home.
Removal: Florida law allows trapping raccoons and we have created a CritterSafe trap that is humane and safe. We then begin the repair process.
Repair: We provide a wide range of repair services, starting with sanitizing all areas inhabited by raccoons. We also fix wires, screens, doors and other items damaged. We properly close all possible entry points into your home. We use exclusion methods to prevent future raccoon problems. Exclusion includes storage solutions for trash and food, removing debris from your yard, and fencing garden crops. We help you eliminate food and water sources that attract raccoons.
Our process works for other Crystal River wildlife, like squirrels.
Squirrel Removal in Florida's Nature Coast
Like raccoons, squirrels are cute scavengers that do incredible damage to your home and property. You can expect to see the Southern flying squirrel, Mexican red-bellied squirrel, Eastern gray squirrel and various fox squirrels in Crystal River, the Villages, or Spring Hill. Our squirrels enjoy eating nuts, seeds, fruits and bird eggs. If you look around your property, you probably see many sources of food for local squirrels.
Squirrels are collectors. They need a place to store their goods, have baby squirrels and stay warm during the winter months. There’s no better place than your attic, which is easy to reach since squirrels can climb and scurry across thin wires and ledges.
Squirrels can quickly become a nuisance. We can help.
Inspection: We know what to look for when it comes to squirrel activity. Sagging power lines, scratches on roof shingles, gnaw marks on wood, feces and urine stains and nesting. Squirrels will use any materials to build a nest, including the insulation in your attic.
Removal: We use the same Florida trapping laws as a guide to removing squirrels. We focus heavily on exclusion methods to prevent future squirrel invasions.
Repair: We clean all feces and urine and remove stains. We repair wires, wood, screens and anything else squirrels have broken to gain entry into your home. We can replace damaged shingles and put barriers on your roof ledges. For exclusion, we can fence gardens and use tree barriers, as well as trim tree limbs to keep them away from your home, making it harder for squirrels to travel. We also relocate or remove birdfeeders that squirrels enjoy raiding.
Squirrels are rodents, but they’re not the only rodents moving in on the Nature Coast residents.
Rat and Mice Control in Citrus County
The rats and mice in Florida contaminate ten times as much food as they eat, which is also what you eat. They love junk food and will break into cabinets and food boxes to satisfy their hunger. Most common are the Norway rat, house mouse and roof rat.
Both rats and mice can fit themselves through tiny holes. They can create fire hazards when gnawing on electrical wires. They leave feces and urine everywhere they go. Because they carry many diseases, it could affect your health. Rats and mice are more active at night while you sleep. The Critter Control process works well to get rid of rats and mice in your home.
Inspection: We look signs of rats and mice in your home. We inspect all places rats and mice like to build like in your attics and wall cavities. We identify every possible entry point, no matter how small and damages caused inside and outside your home.
Removal: We use trapping methods allowed by Florida laws to remove rats and mice. Exclusion services are essential to control rodents in your house.
Repair: Sealing all holes that allow rodents to enter and exit your home is our first step after removal. Entry to chimneys, vents, gutters and piping are covered with screens. We repair damaged or gnawed, and clean and apply sanitization products to areas where rat and mice activity occurred. By taking away food and water sources, we make your property unattractive to squirrels.
We use similar techniques when controlling bats living in your attic, barn, or outbuilding.
Bat Removal in Central Florida
Some of the more common bats in Central Florida are the Mexican free-tailed, evening, Eastern, Seminole and Northern yellow bats. Caves and trees are a bat's natural roosting space. But some find roosting in your attic or the eaves of buildings a better shelter. They can even roost in walls and chimneys.
All bats in Floirda are insectivores. They can eat thousands of insects in an hour. We need help from bats in controlling the insect population in our neighborhoods. Being surrounded by so many water sources, we are overloaded with insects.
A large maternity colony in your attic can leave piles of guano. Guano has good qualities, like as a fertilizer. Bat guano can grow mold spores that are dangerous for humans to inhale. It can weaken the structure of your home and sag ceilings. Also, urine and feces leave stains on your home.
Inspection: Signs of bat activity are easy to spot and smell. We spend extra time looking for food and water sources attracting bats to your property. Then we start removal and repair.
Removal: In Florida bats are protected during maternity seasons from April to August. We follow all guidelines set by the Florida Wildlife Department. We use one-way bat valves to humanely remove bats.
Repair: Exclusion is the only legal method to fix your bat problem. If you want to keep bats nearby to control insects, you can install bat boxes on your property. Tips like keeping outdoor lights off at night can deter bats. We don’t leave without thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing the areas where bats roosted and sealing entry points to your home.
Florida is well-known as the home of a variety of mostly nonvenomous—and several venomous—snake species. According to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state is home to 51 native and four nonnative species. Nature Coast residents should treat any snake with caution, as this region is home to several venomous species, including the coral snake and cottonmouth.
Inspection: Like most nuisance animals, if a snake has invaded your property, chances are it’s looking for food. For example, if you are dealing with a rat infestation, they could very well also be attracting snakes to your property. Your Critter Control specialist will look for entry points in and around your home as well as a potential rodent infestation.
Removal: A trained wildlife specialist familiar with Florida’s snake population will humanely remove the snake or snakes from your residence or business. Please do not try to remove a snake from your property, as doing so could cause harm to yourself and/or the snake.
Repairs: In addition to dealing with any possible rodent problem drawing snakes to your property, a specialist will assist with sealing possible entry points and also encourage you to remove any debris where snakes can easily take up residence.
Wildlife FAQ with Mark Cerney:
What are some of the most common wildlife issues in Florida's Nature Coast?
Rats, Raccoons, Armadillos, Moles, Gophers (pocket), Snakes, Bats, Mosquitoes, Squirrels, Birds, Bees, Wild Hogs and Spiders.
How do the seasons affect wildlife activity in Crystal River, Inverness, Homosassa, Inverness, or Spring Hill?
In the central west Florida, mammals, such as raccoons and squirrels, often have multiple litters per year which causes them to enter structures more often than in the north. Snakes are year-round here, but activity is intense during the spring and summer. Bees, wasps and yellow jacket hives survive year-round, become super hives and split off creating many new hives.
What are some common signs of nuisance wildlife activity?
Noises in attic, walls and crawlspaces. Animal contaminants and debris coming out of air condition vents (can cause breathing problems). Parts of roof or siding torn or gnawed off. Black staining on exterior or interior of buildings. Uplifted sod or holes in lawn/beds.
