When selecting places to construct nests, squirrels typically look for secluded areas off the ground with plenty of covers. While squirrels rarely infest chimneys themselves, the pests may nest in metal chimney boxes.

Signs of Squirrels in Chimney

If a squirrel falls down a chimney and becomes trapped inside the fireplace, homeowners will be alerted to their presences. Homeowners can smell squirrel droppings, and even see the pests running loose inside the home. The most common sign of a squirrel in the chimney is the noise.

Residents may hear squirrel noises like:

  • chittering
  • barking
  • rattling
  • crying or high pitch chirping
  • fighting
  • scratching

Squirrel in Chimney Removal

NEVER attempt squirrel removal by smoking out the squirrel. Similiary, do not open your fireplace to let a squirrel out. Squirrels are quick and agile. It is very difficult to catch them, and you do not want a squirrel inside your home.

If squirrels are in the chimney, we can set up squirrel traps and/or one way doors. If a squirrel is stuck in the fireplace, that can require more creativity. Dropping a rope down into the fireplace gives something the squirrel to climb. If that doesn’t work, we have a system to safely trap the squirrel and remove it from your home.

Chimney Caps for Squirrel Control

Once the squirrels have safely been removed, invest in squirrel control to prevent future problems. Installing sturdy chimney caps is the best way to prevent squirrel problems.
