Nuisance Wildlife
The wildlife found in Louisville, KY, ranges from small mammals like opossums and raccoons to reptiles such as snakes. Opossums and raccoons both set up dens on private properties, where they dig up carefully cultivated landscaping, rummage through trash, invade homes, and spread diseases. Snakes tend to lurk in the tall grasses of yards and public spaces, where they incite fear and panic. While most native snakes are harmless, timber rattlesnakes, whose bites are fatal unless given immediate medical attention, are abundant in the area. Additionally, since snakes set up their nests where food is present, and rodents are some of their favorite meals, finding multiple snakes on private properties may indicate secondary pest issues.
