A 17-year-old boy was bitten in the head and back by a 9- to 10-foot alligator while swimming in the Little Econlockhatchee River on Monday afternoon, wildlife officials said.
Andrew Hudson of Winter Springs was taken to South Seminole Hospital in Longwood and released, according to Joy Hill of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Seminole County Fire Rescue responded to Little Big Econ State Forest just after 4 p.m. after 911 calls were made. Hudson was in an area of the river open to swimming, Hill said.
Hudson told investigators he is aware that gators are in the river but didn't see any before being bitten.
