Coming Soon: Baby Raccoon Season!

Our 120 offices are reporting modest raccoon activity in attics and chimneys across the nation, which means baby raccoons aren’t far behind.  We start seeing early arrivals in March, but the majority of baby raccoons are delivered during the months of April and May. If you hear anything in your attic now, call Critter Control at 1-800-CRITTER before you think you hear what sounds like “baby birds” in your home.  Usually, those birds turn out to be baby raccoons.

5 Raccoon Fast Facts

  1. Raccoons are capable of achieving body masses comprising 50 percent body fat.
  2. During extremely cold periods, raccoons have been known to sleep for long periods but they don't hibernate.
  3. In addition to being agile climbers, these animals are strong swimmers, but they're usually reluctant to take a dip. Without waterproof fur, swimming weighs them down with wet coats.
  4. These critters can live in the wild for as long as 21 years, but most don't make it past their second birthday.
  5. Most female raccoons produce one litter each year consisting of four babies. They also reach sexual maturity before they’re one year old.
