A 16-year-old girl and a woman are receiving medial treatment after a possibly rabid raccoon bit them in two separate incidents early Wednesday.
Police first responded to 149 Princeton Avenue in Providence just after 6:30 a.m. for a report of an animal bite. Then at 7:25 a.m., they responded to 21 Burnett Street for a person bitten by an unknown animal. According to police, the raccoon lunged at the woman’s face and bit her.
The raccoon was located just before 10 a.m. on Mawney Street and was shot and killed by a Providence police officer.
Police said they believe the same animal bit both victims since the locations are so close in proximity. The teen was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital to be treated, while the woman took herself to a nearby hospital.
Right now, Providence Police and animal control are investigating both incidents.
